This website is really great. There are 5 lessons, all in Social Studies, that all include using digital cameras. http://pegasus.cc.ucf.edu/~ucfcasio/social.htm
I especially like the lesson entitled "Know Your Community." The lesson uses digital photos to teach about the community. One of the objectives is to develop the student's digital technology skills. I think it is great that the lesson is teaching kids about the uses of technology not just expecting them to play around and put some pictures on their project.
There is one lesson that is a little above elementary age, the "Welcome to Our School" book is written for 7th - 12th graders, but I really feel like 4th-6th graders could handle it if they had support.

I like these ideas for using digital cameras. The "welcome to our school" lesson is a neat idea. Coming to a new school is a tough experience for any child. A picture book is a great way to introduce the layout of the school and rules in the new community. And I agree, I think students younger than 7th grade could complete this type of work with enough guidance.
ReplyDeleteI checked out those ideas and they were quite good. I can see a class or group brainstorming their ideas on how to complete the task and then completing it like we did with our alarm clock product. The other great thing out of a grouping of lesson plans is that the one teacher could do several of them in series and watch the experienced gained by students as the practice the process! I liked the one "How We Grow" which cataloged the progress of a construction project on campus. Hearing from the builder/architect in class would be great!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen;
ReplyDeleteThese lesson plans are not too involved so students should be able to learn and not be intimidated by the technology. Besides learning to use digital cameras students would also be actively contributing as a part of the group as they create their projects.
My favorite was the "Watch Us Grow" project. There's always something new or something changing around the school grounds. Who knows, this project could turn into a monthly newsletter.
