I am actually n love with the site I have found.
http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Olympus/7123/camera.html
While the site is from 1998, the information is still very useful. Using a Digital Camera in the Classroom is the website for a class in Learning and Instruction. It breaks down how to use a digital camera and then gives examples of lessons to use your digital photos in. The ideas for writing lessons are incredible. The site actually breaks down why you should use digital photography and what the benefits are. This is the first time I have seen benefits of using Digital Photography in writing. While I have been looking for benefits of using digital photography in social studies, I feel that the benefits covered here are usable in any subject.

Hi Jen;
ReplyDeleteI found some lessons on this site that would benefit my college students as long as I updated to their age level. I liked the section, Using the Digital Camera for WebPage Creation. I could have my introductory web design students create a Santa Fe College newsletter using their digital photographs. Of course I would have to consider time constraints and access to digital cameras.
I also liked the web page by Fran where she teaches students that what you see on the web is not always fact. Don't you think it is a good idea to show students examples of facts vs. non-facts on the web so they will learn to
start checking their resources?

Jen,
ReplyDeleteIt seems like there are some great ideas for using digital photos in the classroom on this site. It seems clear that there are possibilities with all grade levels (including college students as Mary noted). A lot of the ideas seem to be about enhancing practices with photography. Like a lot of technology, teachers may not always be doing something completely new, but something is done better because of photography. Certainly presentations are a lot more interesting when photos are taken and used to help support ideas. I can think of presentations I have done over the years that could have been enhanced in this way.

Jennifer, I too think the digital pictures really could enhance writing lessons with students from every age. Sequencing skills would be great for younger students. As I read all the different ideas for lessons, I thought of using the digital pictures to story board a topic that would then be filmed. Digital photos can be handled by very young children = like the little 4 year old in a commercial who took a picture of her Gold Fish. Thanks Jen!
